A wooden house advent calendar is not cheap, but you can reuse them every year and simply fill them with new gifts.
When I was growing up, my mom always got us a standard cardboard advent calendar filled with chocolates. And I’m not complaining. I love chocolate. But you throw it out once Christmas has passed and buy a new one every year.
It’s also not the healthiest choice, and my sister is trying to be a bit more health conscious with her girls. Last year, we actually made advent calendars for them, but that was a lot of work and we can’t (read: don’t want to) do that again.
I was put in charge of finding a good alternative that we can fill with our own gifts. Ideally, we’d like something we can reuse. Perhaps I can even use them when I have kids, though I’m not sure if a material exists that lasts THAT long.
These wooden Christmas advent calendar houses seem like a great choice. They’re beautifully crafted and most of them even light up thanks to built-in LED lights. All of them allow you to put your own little gifts in the drawers or windows.
Best Value Wooden Advent Calendar Houses
I’m not sure yet if I’m going to get one of these. I’m still in the research phase. It’s a larger investment than I was planning on making, but probably worth it in the end, since we will likely never have to buy another advent calendar again. Unless my sister has another kid (if you’re reading this, please don’t—you’re already way ahead of me and mom will never let me hear the end of it).
If I end up getting a wooden advent calendar house, I’m leaning toward the Bavarian scene with the little drawers or the Santa’s workshop one. I prefer the more subdued wooden look to the brightly painted one. Of course, my nieces have the exact opposite taste and I should probably take that into account. But in the end, I pretty sure I’ll get the ones I like. Of course.
